Meet the Principal

Mr. Simunovic is originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He came to the United States when he was in 4th grade in order to escape a civil war that ravaged his country. He was very lucky to attend some of the best Chicago Public Schools from 4th grade until he graduated from high school. He learned the English language quickly and received his IB diploma from Lincoln Park High School.  He attended Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and it was there that he became extremely enthusiastic about education. He learned early on, that not every child his age had the same educational experience in the city of Chicago. This discovery pushed him to dedicate his life to education in order to ensure that all students, had the chance to sit in an extremely high performing seat that was a part of a high performing school in the city of Chicago.

Once he graduated from Knox, Mr. Simunovic joined Teach For America and taught middle school students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He knew that his dream was to come back and have an impact on his home city of Chicago. In 2012 Mr. Simunovic founded Hansberry College Prep as the Assistant Principal. It was an extremely rewarding experience and after 4 years he was able to graduate his advisory – his proudest moment while at Hansberry. In 2016 Mr. Simunovic was given the opportunity to found once again, this time as a Principal.

One of his biggest goals is to ensure that Mansueto High School becomes and International Baccalaureate School by 2018 – in time for the founding class to participate in the IB program. Currently Mansueto is considered an IB Candidate School and it is well on the way to becoming an authorized IB school.

Mr. Simunovic is very humbled and honored to lead the first Noble campus on the Southwest side. He cannot wait to see the impact a brand new Noble school will have on the lives of the students and families it serves.
